Asalaamu-Alaikum World. So I have been gone for a min. Its been quite the busy week. Hmm what has been going on? I have been working a little bit and doing a lot for school. Sometime I wish I had a remote for my life (like the movie Click) lol and I can just fast forward all the stuff I dont want to deal with. So today is going great. Feeling all warm and fuzzy still. Its been a roller coaster ride for sure, but Al-humdillah I am on top today! So stepping a way for a few days allowed me to clear my head , rethink the master plan. Being busy these last few days have been awesome for my emotions. This is why I say get a life. In any difficult situation whether it be starting a polygamous marriage or trying to decipher Chinese algebra you cannot , I repeat CANNOT let the crap consume you. Seriously you will go crazy, and start walking around the house like a paranoid mad woman counting down and second guessing EVERYTHING! Chill, seriously and find some things you LOVE to do that make you forget about whatever it is that is irking your nerves at the moment. If its the hubbie, have a girls night, if its the kids get a sitter lol.
When I was first presented with this situation, omg I am not going to lie, this dude was about to have me catch a case. I really thought he started smoking crack somewhere or maybe some PCP, because the whole thought of me being in polygamy was such a delusional thought for him to say. I really was about to lose it..lol a few times. But then after I snapped back to reality I realized nothing is worth my sanity, and Allah's plan for me is bigger than what ever issue I am facing. Yes , this has been such an emotional ride, and I really feel any man trying to consider this has to be exceptional. Not just ok baller status, but seriously knows how to deal with a woman's emotions and needs. I think most men who go thru this, at some point thinking, when did my awesome wife turn into a bi-polar psycho LOL. Its cool it happens to the best of us. But ladies and gents, just keep in mind the saying "this too shall pass" , anytime you feel like throwing up a peace sign and calling it quits.
Getting a life is necessary and it truly helps. I defiantly had more than enough things to do before all of this, but consciously adding activities that I liked to my schedule, not just things I needed to do has really helped. One of the reasons first wives have such a hard time with the hubbie getting a 2nd (if done in a halal manner& if the hubbie is awesome) is that often we put so much effort into trying to please our husbands and be the perfect wife. So when he has the audacity to try to get a 2nd after all the hard work and "training" lol you put into him, your looking at this dude like he is crazy. Not only that as women we are wired to be caregivers and nurturers, and often if our hubbie is a sweetheart we put him on a pedestal. When the idea of polygamy enters the conversation we soon realize although we can give 100% of our heart to him, he would like to give 50%. Slowly he is taken from the pedestal and we realize he is only human. He has desires and needs which we may never fully understand. This is why you cannot make your husband your LIFE. No matter how awesome he is it is unhealthy for him to be your whole world. Get a life and surround yourself with things and people you love. This situation doesnt define me, and it will not. I am much more than a "first wife." I think once women start to shift their way of thinking of themselves first, then it will be easier for them to accept plural marriages if and when presented with it.

Hmm if only everyone were awesome
Salaams world. Sometimes you just feel like screaming. Just one of those days. No not nothing Hassan did or this whole situation just people in general. If everyone could just be as awesome as me this world would be a better place lol. I'm gonna take a step back from blogging for a few days. For those who have my email holla. Everyone else, live , laugh . love!
And another side note, for those who ever feel the need to try to check someone, ask yourself first "is what I am saying going to benefit this person and allow them to be more productive? Or am I simply venting my feelings and opinions that are not constructive?." Things that make you go hmmm...lol Anyways peace and love guys and dolls.

Inner peace and all that warm and fuzzy...
Aslaaum-Alakum world. So I have been having a humbling last few days. So many people assume that because a marriage may be polygamous that you are stressed like crazy and ready to throw up a peace sign and leave your hubbie any second. This is not the case. Perhaps my blog maybe misleading lol, I try to be honest with my feelings as I feel them and as things happen. Marriage as we all know is 1/2 one's deen which that in itself tells us it will be challenging and filled with many tests. If your Chemistry teacher tells you half your final exam will be on the periodic table. I bet you would do your best to memorize that bad boy front back and sideways. So marriage is no different. It being half one's deen is letting Muslims know, dont slip and slack off in your marriage. Strong marriages promote and help build a strong community. Without that as Muslims we are truly living in a sad state. So anyways back to the whole inner peace thing, I have been doing a lot of dua, zikr, and reading and really very appreciative of the life I have right now.The Quran says :
"And among His Signs is this that He created for you spouses of your own kind, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy for one another: verily in that are Signs for those who reflect.” (Quran 30:21)
Ok so for those that are reflecting, marriage is about being calm and tranquil, to feel all warm and fuzzy. Allowing this polygyny situation to go down isn't going to interfere with the happiness I already have. I wont let it. This situation doesn't define me. If someone asked who I were the first thing out my mouth isnt "the 1st wife." Yeah its a nice title and it feels good to pull rank at times so to speak but this situation is not bigger than why we are here and Allah's plan for me. First and foremost I am Muslim. I have my duties to Allah first, then my husband. I think too often women loose track of what is important and the reasons why they are here in the first place. If we keep in mind that this life is one big test and one day we will leave to meet our creator, only then will we begin to change our way of thinking as a result our situation. And that my friends lol is what will bring about inner peace. Not your husband, no matter how awesome he may be, not the cheesecake factory omg so good, and not being best friends with your cowife. Knowing your deen and loving what Allah has given you will provide you with more happiness than any person walking this earth. This is what we should strive for, a deeper understanding of knowledge. When I first started this blog many times I would be so mad and say to myself, "what the heck am I getting out of this deal." Really at times I didnt see how "bettering my deen" was a good trade off of what both of them would be gaining. I really felt jipped lol. Its sad to say but it is what it is. But strengthening my deen is much better than anything material my husband could ever provide. The concubine yeah she will get a husband, some money, lover ect. But if my husband left her or Allah forbid dies and he leaves us both, the only thing she can take with her to the hereafter is her deen. I'd much rather have gained that.
"And among His Signs is this that He created for you spouses of your own kind, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy for one another: verily in that are Signs for those who reflect.” (Quran 30:21)

Make your list and check it twice
Aslaamu-Alaikum world. So yesterday pretty much sucked. But today was so much better. This is why I say you have to take things one day at a time. I talked to my older sister today and she really made me feel better . I really hope she will be able to move here soon, that would be so awesome. She is two years older than me and although I have other sisters me and her are the closest. I miss her so much. My sister is so awesome Mashallah, she is defiantly more educated in her deen and practical in her way of thinking. She always gives me good advice based on logic and deen not just emotion. After I talked with her I decided to make a list of reasons why I love Hassan and reasons why I want to punch him in the eye lol. So the love column was 25 reasons. And the other column only had 3 things, "wannabe polygamist" was on the top of the list. LOL. Seeing things in black in white helped me put things in perspective again. This whole perspective thing keeps going back and forth. But I am glad I did it, it was a nice reminder of what is really important and what is not. Everything on the "punch in the eye" list were not deal breakers just things that irk me, but I could live with. I think in any relationship its good to asses where you stand and see why you really love them in the first place. Before I even met my husband I had the "list" of what I was looking for in a husband and when I met Hassan I checked off so many things on the list. In any stage of a relationship I think this is so important to do. Prior to getting married and during rough patches of your relationship, you have to re-evaluate things and see if he is still the Mr.Wonderful he claimed to be in the beginning.
The list and all the support the wonderful sisters have been giving me has really helped me deal with this a lot better. Its just hard for me to stay mad at him. So earlier today I was feeling like crap, was in a lot of pain, drugged up and feeling nauseous. So Hassan called me to see how my Dr.'s appointment went and before I could ask him, he asked me if I wanted some take-out so I wouldn't have to cook dinner. He probably knew I wasn't going to feel like slaving over a hot stove for hours anyways, but it was a sweet offer. Always good to have a night off, I cant be Julia Child everyday. So he came home with pizza and chocolate great combination. Man, just when I wanna punch him in the eye he goes and does something sweet to remind me why I love his stubborn self in the first place lol.

A BMW for a Ford Focus
Asalaamu-alaikum world. So I am sitting here its crazy late around these parks. I cant sleep what a surprise. As weeks and days draw near to the "wedding" of the prostitute.. I mean the sister Denise and Hassan it seems I get more and more confused. I've told him it is like he is trading in a 2011 BMW convertible for a 1978 ford focus. Ok , I know they didnt make Ford focus in 1978 but you get my point. I just dont understand how his brain works sometimes it is just one big confusion circle. Like at first I was thinking ok he is doing a noble thing marrying this divorced unattractive sister who is unable to find a husband. But now after I have seen her attitude many times I can see the previous reasons why she couldn't find anyone weren't just because of her looks. She really needs an attitude adjustment. Its funny he tells me "Sweetheart you would be the perfect Christian wife." WTF??? I guess in his mind since I treat him very good but have a lot of resistance to his "rights" this makes me unislamic or whatever. Who cares anymore. Like seriously, I really just wanna punch him right now. Like yes he is a good husband but so what, that doesnt mean you can just be selfish and completely overlook your awesome wife's feelings just so you can fulfill some lifelong dream of having a collection of women. So I told him he is about to trade in his BMW for a old rusty broke down Ford focus. lol Me being the BMW if you are following my analogy and her being the Ford. So now I call her ford focus lol. I just cant bring myself to even say her real name in my house. It still makes me want to vomit. Like I think the issue is I have spoiled this dude way to much.. am not trying to toot my own horn or nothing but BEEP BEEP ...I am an awesome wife... Hassan wants for nothing around our house. There are going to be some BIG changes in a few weeks. I dont know maybe this is coming from an angry place tonight, but it is what it is. LOL.Its just going to be very hard to be my same normal awesome self after he finalizes things with "Ford Focus" aka Denise. There is gonna be a lot of Ramen noodles being cooked around here that's all I have to say. Actually he will be lucky to get that..I think I am going to boycott a few things lol. I really feel the both of them are VERY selfish. And the shady part of it is the concubine was very good friends with his ex wife, who is very hurt that her friend is trying to marry her ex. I pray that I can maintain my calm, because who knows what will happen when it does go down. Even though I'm venting I have been surprisingly calm lately. All that yelling and crying takes too much energy. Its physically and mentally draining to carry on like that. Hmm yeah I am going to need some retail therapy in the am. I will have to hit up Hassan for some more money, after all no reason I should spend my own when I can spend his.

Once upon a time
Aslamu-Alaikum world, So decided to take one for the team and give a little brief history lesson so to speak on polygamy/polygyny. I promise it wont be boring LOL. Ok so I was talking with a friend (i hope she doesn't mind me posting this) recently she was sharing a story of what someone said to her regarding polygamy. She is also in the pre-phase of polygyny and someone told her in so many words that she either must have very low self esteem to consider polygamy or must be an angry black woman or Mormon.Huh? WTH? Hmmm really? When she told me this I really had to laugh so hard. For one, she is neither of these things, she isnt black, or Mormon or low self esteem. The sister is very pretty Mashallah. When people say really stupid things sometimes you have to ask yourself, what is wrong with them? Were they dropped one too many times as a baby? Did they spend their early days eating glue and or paint chips? Is their brain leaking? Or are they simply just on crack? All of these are likely answers to their obvious ignorance and stupidity. So for the people out there wandering the world thinking these are the only 3 possible scenarios for a woman to even consider it, let me enlighten you.
Polygamy is a marriage where one person has more than one spouse. Polyandry is a practice where a woman has more than one husband at the same time. (Which as we all know is haram, but who would want that anyway?) And Polygyny is when a man has more than one wife.
Because I'm feeling lazy here is an except from an polygamy article online from an reputable site (no not wikipedia lol)
Polygamy has been practiced by mankind for thousands of years.
Many of the ancient Israelites were polygamous, some having
hundreds of wives. King Solomon (peace be upon him) is said to
have had seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines.
David (Dawood) had ninety-nine and Jacob (Yacub, peace be upon
them both) had four. Advice given by some Jewish wise men state
that no man should marry more than four wives. No early society
put any restrictions on the number of wives or put any
conditions about how they were to be treated. Jesus was not
known to have spoken against polygamy. As recently as the
seventeenth century, polygamy was practiced and accepted by the
Christian Church. The Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints) has allowed and practiced polygamy in the United
States. Polygamy is practiced today in nearly every country in the world. Wow what a shocker nearly every race, and culture practice it...not just blacks and Mormons lol. Some countries practice illegally like the U.S, other countries such as Malaysia practice it openly. People practice polygamy for various reasons. Although most wives first , second or third would all agree that they would prefer not to share the husband, they would likely also agree they would rather share a "good man" then have 100% of a loser. Let's face it, a lot of men suck. No I am not some angry bitter woman just stating facts. There are some slim pickens out there, not sure about men abroad only referring to Brothers around these parks. But just saying, people have issues this days. Before I married Hassan I turned down 9 YES NINE marriage offers. Ok so yes I am picky to some degree, but that's because I value myself and wasn't just going to settle for any loser that came around. There were so many reasons why I was attracted to my husband, he had/has a lot of the qualities that I was interested in. He's a good catch not even going to lie. So I can easily see why the concubine approached him. She probably was thinking to herself ," hmm he's pretty fly and is up on his deen handling his business, maybe I can be his second wife even thou I'll never come close to being as awesome as his first wife." LOL
Here in the U.S as well as abroad many women (many with children) are currently all sleeping with the same man whether or not they know it and yet he has no legal responsibility to them. In this country its ok for people to have open relationship and "share" STDs but oh no let people actually get some morals and want to marry each other and all hell breaks loose.Lol How many men have fathered umpteen number of children (unmarried) and are not contributing financially or otherwise to help these children be raised? Somehow this is more culturally acceptable? WTH?? lol At least polygamy gives the women some rights in the sense that the men are required to take care of them.
Ok, so back to my original point. The practice of polygamy isn't new. There are many benefits of practicing it for all parties involved if done right. And many women who are attractive and awesome, borderline amazing in every way practice it and are open to it. Yes, it is a struggle at times. All marriages are a struggle. Many people wanna give polygamy a bad name and say there are so many people not doing it right. Well there are so many people not doing monogamy right. The current divorce rate of monogamous marriages in the United States is around 55% , Hmmm....so what we shouldn't practice monogamy either?

Sister Wives Season Finale
Asalaamu-alaikum world. So I am watching sister wives season finale tonight. This show is defiantly very interesting. The three previous wives all seem to have had difficulty with the adjustment of the new add on of 4th wife Robin (Brunette on the end) into the mix. Meri (1st wife, and 3rd wife Christine) mentioned that they felt it was unnecessary and unfair that Robin was trying to get equal time with the husband before they even got married. They seem like they are somewhat happy with the situation but it really seems they were much happier with just the 3 of them in the mix. The new wife had a 200 guest wedding, which was nothing like the 2nd or 3rd simple weddings. So its clear there is some jealousy because of that. Although their belief system is completly different than Islam, i totally agree with the 2nd and 3rd wives view on how she 4th wife shouldnt of had a big flashy wedding. Although they are not muslim its good to see women working together trying to make things work.
When I was looking up info on sisterwives it is surprising how close minded so many people are. There were so many people hating on this show and the family making comments to cancel their cable service and try to get the network TLC banned. Really, there are a lot of dumb people in this country. Sorry it is what it is. TLC stands for "The Learning Channel." Therefore the channel is based upon the premise to broaden people's little feeble minds to knowledge regarding life, and the world. Plural marriage may not be for everyone but these woman here made a choice and are happy with that. Nobody forced them into it, they weren't child brides or anything crazy. Currently according to the CDC statistics, 4 out of every 10 births in the U.S are babies born out of wedlock. Which means lots of single mothers, men with multiple "baby mama's" ect. Some other sad statistics 2.8 million people have chlamydia, 1 million new cases of gonorrhea, and some 94 thousand other people are walking around every year getting syphilis. This sounds like one big yuck fest. If more people valued their bodies and marriage maybe there would be more plural marriages who knows but these disease rates and preggo rates would also drop significantly. Plural marriage when done right can help alot of would be single mothers have a provider, friend, lover ect instead of just roughin it, in these STD infested streets lol. I'm just saying alot of people out there are quick to be against polygamy and say negative things about it. Yet they are ok with divorce rate being 40-60%, std rate being crazy high, teenage pregnancy being crazy high, and men having many children out of wedlock and not taking care of any of them. Hmm just some food for thought.

Some people suck! DELETED POST
Ok , so I decided to delete this post, because its kinda mean. Some people may have got the impression that I insinuated that the concubine was a crackhead. The drug habits she may or may not have do not need to be put on blast , also it isn't a reflection of my "happy place." lol that I am in. For the record I do not think she smokes rocks. Times are hard but not that hard lol. But I appreciate all the comments so I will leave those for reminders on things I need to keep in mind:-)

Bring sexy back
Whats good world? Often after people get married and get "comfortable" with each other, slowly but surly they slip into chill mode. Yeah, its nice to be able to be yourself around your partner,BUT yourself doesn't mean you have to dress and look like a homeless orphan LOL This is what I call having a case of the uglies. I mean everyone has their share of bad hair days, nobody is perfect. But as muslimas you NEVER want to let yourself go, next thing you know you'll be walking around the house looking like Ceiley. (color purple need i say more?) This week has been SO AWESOME. I really feel like I am falling in love with Hassan all over again. <3 So since I am feeling all warm and fuzzy I decided now is a good time as ever to capture that awesomeness and share it with the world. Just a some tips ..people can thank me later. In marriage its natural for relationships to go through ups and downs. But even when you are "down" you still wanna look as fly and fabulous as ever. Polygamy can cause some initial stress as with any new unfamiliar situation in life. Chocolate therapy is fun but when you start packing on the pounds that is no longer fun or sexy. Well, unless you were previously anorexic which, if this is the case you have some serious issues that chocolate could never solve.
So this brings me to.. bring sexy back tip #1 Give your body healthy fuel regularly. A sugar high is amazing (sporadically) just don't overdose on the donuts and you'll be fine. BSB tip #2 Do your hair. Regardless of how your hair is there are always ways to style it to make it look better than bedhead. Get some curlers, rollers, flat irons, styling spray, braid it , switch it up keep him guessing. BSB tip #3 Maybe she's born with it maybe its maybelline. A little makeup can go a long way. I LOVE, love, LOVE makeup. Now I already know there are some muslimas out there who are against makeup, so this tip..well I guess its not for you then. But for those that love it, embrace your inner makeup artist. Watch a couple a youtube videos get fancy if you want. Even if you just do it around the home looking cute will make you feel so much better. Even a little Kohl and mascara and lip gloss can make a big difference! BSB tip #4 wear cute around the house clothes. Shorts, tank top, sundress, cute velor sweatsuit...any outfit that says "I'm effortlessly sexy and I know it." Another BSB #5 that "slave2Allah" reminded me of the other day is smell amazing. Get some new perfume/oil. Scent is the strongest sense tied to memory. So you want your hubbie to think about you when your not with him, give him a reason to. I love , love, love, Calvin Klein Euphoria omg smells so good. BSB tip #6 Get some new sleepwear. That's self explanatory no need to elaborate. Your man will appreciate that. BSB tip #7 Oh, I almost forgot, get off your butt once in awhile and workout. You cant bring sexy back if your still toting around 50 lbs of pregnancy weight from a kid you had 17 years ago. No offense to the thick sistas out there, thickness is nice. But overweight can also lead to many health problems when you start tipping the scale. Just saying a little cardio or a little yoga can go along way. BSB #8 Lose the attitude. No husband will ever find nagging, annoying, ghetto-hoodtastic, whiny, or psycho behavior sexy. And last but not least tip #9. Be confident, confidence so sexy. If you do not think you are awesome and sexy then chances are neither will he.
Here is a hadith to back up what I am saying just in case you love your homeles-orphan look and see no reason to change it. lol
HADITH 37 Rasulullah said: "The best of wealth is a righteous woman who pleases her husband when he sees her; she obeys whenever he commands her and when her husband is absent she protects her chastity and respect"

Note to the husbands...pt.1
A little note to the husbands on some good ways to go about trying to be in polygamy. These suggestions only apply if your wife is awesome like me, if not then go for what you know. After talking with several sisters about the topic and just knowing of other polygamy situations growing up I can really see many brothers are lacking in the common sense/sensitivity department when it comes to polygamy. Nothing to feel bad about you cant win them all, but when you realize what areas you suck in this is the time to make a come back. So with that being said here are some general tips for polygamy, these may or may not work Allah knows best.(Disclaimer if you still get cursed out by your wife, that's on you.)
- Make sure you are taking care of your first wife FIRST! make sure she has all her rights being fulfilled. If you have NO JOB, and she is on govt assistance with 18 kids and counting, now is not a good time to get a 2nd wife.
- Be honest. I cannot stress this enough. If your master plan is to have 4 wives tell your wife this before she marries you. If she is still feeling your swagger then hey maybe your plan will work. If not at least you will have no regrets.
- Continue to be honest. Do not marry someone else and hide it for 3 years then be surprised when your wife finds out and she is not happy. Hmmm what did you expect to happen? Did you actually think she would high five you and buy you a wedding present? Umm no lets be for real.
- Give your wife time to adjust to the idea. Dont find someone secretly and then tell your wife ..."Honey by the way i'm getting married tomorrow after Jummah." LOL not a good idea. Did you see Fatal attraction? need I say more?
- Pamper your wife during this transition process. This will likely be the hardest thing she has EVER had to do. Yes she will cry, spaz out, possibly throw things and or key your car. However, lol this is a big life changing decision so be patient. If you are truly a good husband, she may be willing to hang in there and work with you on this. Just keep in mind what you are REALLY asking her to do ; share your time, love, money, affection, knowledge. Show her you really appreciate her even considering this. A little appreciation can go a long way. Don't assume because she has been Muslim for x amount of time that she will just jump on board with a smile. Give her a reason to still smile.
- Do not blame your current awesome wife for your own issues. (so glad my hubbie doesn't do this) This goes back to being honest. If you just want to have a little spice in your life or live out some life long dream of having multiple wives man up and say this. Do not tell your wife its becuz she isnt doing x,y,z. This will only make matters worse. If you always wanted to be with an Asian woman, or whatever the case/fantasy is say that. Women can respect honesty..but the lies get no love. I had a friend tell me her husband told her the reason he got a 2nd wife whom he married secretly was because she had an attitude problem. Hmm really. Ok so she may or may not have an attitude i am not in the marriage. But, i am very certain even if she acted like 1952 stepford wife he would've still wanted a 2nd wife. That is an internal desire of his. But just man up and say that, don't lie to her making her feel more inadequate than she probably already feels.
- Choose your concubine wisely. Marriage as we all know is half ones' deen. So don't just jump for joy that you have found someone willing to be your 2nd wife and totally disregard all logic and common sense. Find out about her make sure she isn't psycho. Make sure she doesn't have every STD known to man. Preferably make sure she is Muslim and practicing. Also try to find someone that you feel eventually may be a friend to your awesome wife you already have. Its not necessary that they are friends, however it helps. And having a concubine that is spiteful and mean will ruin any chance of that.

The Second Wives Club..?

Aslaamu-Alaikum world.Ok so I wanted to clarify somethings with this blog. This is an equal opportunity blog lol . I dont discriminate against 2nd or 3rd wives. Yes, it is true I do not care for my husband's concubine. But I have nothing against OTHER 2nd wives lol...and would love input and feedback . I called this blog "the first wives club." because I feel first wives share a unique bond and a special set of emotions, experiences that only first wives can truly understand. The second wives out there can relate to each other on a whole different level and the shared input would be helpful. So whether your a first wife, second wife, concubine, mistress, single and looking, single and not looking, or husband, ect. this blog is open to everyone. The more first wives, concubines, and 2nd wives truly understand each other and can be sensitive and respectful towards each other, the more successful polygamous situations can occur.

Hmmm..to call her or not to call?
What's going on world? Right now I am so confused. Lately I have been really wanting to call the concubine just to talk and clear up some things as well as try to move forward. A part of me wants to be friends, part of me wants to be happy for her. But another bigger part is still so hurt. The last time she emailed me she said some really nasty hurtful things. Things that were just plain spiteful. I understand I emailed her first and told her some things she probably didn't want to hear, but things she said were flat out lies, and completely inappropriate. I just don't understand why if you know someone is going through a difficult time why would you instigate things, and try to rub things in their face? This is the character she has shown me. And for some strange reason I am hurt by her not reaching out. Crazy right? But i feel if I were in her shoes I would want to reach out and try to get to know me and make this transition easier. But she has not. She has told my husband she wants nothing to do with me. So in a way I guess i feel rejected/betrayed by them both. Not sure why I am feeling so emotional today. Maybe because Hassan is away on a business trip and I've had time to think. One of the reasons why I feel betrayed by Denise (the concubine) is long before I even knew about this situation she called me. Then I heard she was going through a rough situation (she lost her job and apt.) so I called her again, reaching out to see if she was ok. We spoke for quite a long time and I really felt we could have been friends. I even offered her to stay at my home while my husband was away of course until she moved into her new place. A few months later I found out she approached my husband about him marrying her. Although me and her were never best friends, I do feel there was initially a level of respect and trust there which has been completely broken.I tried befriending her in her time of need and then she tries to marry my husband. Hence my reasons for cursing her out the first time. I don't know what to really think anymore...this whole situation is so perplexing. I wish I could be happy for them. But right now there is just so much hurt in my heart. Right now I don't know what to think. Right now I see them as two selfish people. Days like this its hard for me to look at Hassan the same. Its good he's away on business today. I don't really see what I am getting out of this at ALL. I know this post seems down or whatever, but it is what it is. I don't want to sugarcoat things. People out there should know how it feels. Should know about the ups and downs of it all. Inshallah tomorrow will be a better day. Its hard to see the top of the mountain when your standing in the valley. But when you make it to the top the view is breathtaking. Inshallah when I make it through this I can look back and see how much I've grown ... keep hope alive.

Note to the 2nd wives..pt. 1
Note to the potential 2nd wives, concubines, mistresses, girlfriends, and anyone considering polygamy. Polygamy is HARD, hard , HARD, hard, HARD, hard, super duper hard...oh did I say hard? Hmm what a shocker. With that in mind a few things to consider before deciding to take the plunge : (Disclaimer; the following is harsh, I know because I wrote it lol. But it is honest and needs to be said. The truth can be a jagged little pill to swallow. If it offends anyone sorry this wasn't my intention.)
- IF the brother tells you his wife is "ok" with it 9 times out of 10 she is probably not. Talk with her if at all possible to see what her views are. After all it is HER family you will be a part of.
- If the brother tells you he can marry you only if it is a secret marriage, and his wife will flip if she finds out. DO NOT MARRY HIM! If he doesn't respect his current wife enough to have an adult conversation of a life changing decision, why would you think he will suddenly become Mr. wonderful and respect you and take all your opinions into consideration later?
- If a brother says he wants to marry you, BUT he can only marry you if you pay your own bills, DO NOT MARRY HIM. He should be able to provide equally. Why give up your rights just to be married? Why even get married ? Now is the time to get in touch with your inner gold-digger, what can he bring to the table? Remember the saying "I can do bad by myself", keep that in mind.
- If marrying a brother will not improve your current financial AND spiritual situation, DO NOT MARRY HIM.
- If a brother wants to marry you but says only if you are on Govt. assistance, DO NOT MARRY HIM.
- If a brother wants to marry you but flat out tells you he will not/cant not give you equal time, do not marry him.
- If the brother is unable to provide you with health insurance, and dental, do not marry him.
- If a you want to marry a brother and he is a NEWLYWED, do not MARRY HIM. Let him and his wife build a foundation with each other. Think of how YOU'D Feel..think of hmm the other sister and think how she might feel during this time. There are other fish in the sea.
- Find out for certain how he is taking care of his 1st family, are their needs being met? If he is on govt assistance and hasn't worked since he was 16 do you think he will get a magical job just to support you? Probably not.
- If you have been having a haram relationship with the brother, and you think the brother will suddenly become Mr.Pious and do everything according to sunnah after you marry , think again. If you have already lowered your standards as well as morals and accepted whatever he was willing to give you. Do not be fooled to think he will suddenly respect you and give you all your rights and put you on a pedestal.Umm no lol not going to happen.
- If you think the 1st wife will automatically be "ok" with it because she has been Muslim x number of years, think again. Regardless of how long someone has been Muslim, a polygamous lifestyle is very difficult to adapt to. There are also lots of social stigmas to overcome depending on the community. Reaching out to the first wife and having an open honest conversation can help smooth the transition period, as well as being patient and respectful.
- Expect resistance to the situation by the first wife and possibly others. You may or may not get cursed out. This situation will likely test everyone in ways they never thought possible. The situation will likely cause people to say/do things out of character. Be prepared for the unexpected.
- If and when you get cursed out /and or into a confrontation with the first wife, or others in community about this, keep in mind this is a choice for you. And for most first wives something forced upon them. Be sensitive and put yourself in her shoes. A positive reaction to any confrontation can go a long way.Taking jabs at her character, home, lifestyle ect will only cause more fitna. And will cause the husband to re-evaluate the situation to see if YOUR a good fit in the first place.
- Be honest with yourself. You may bring some good things to the table. But he also married his 1st wife for specific reasons. Many of which could be completely opposite of why he is interested in you. So know you will not replace her, but will be an addition to what he already has.
- Do not be so naive to think you will/can be having a monogamous relationship with a married man. LOL This is an oxymoron. Both lives will intersect at some point. Be prepared for this.
- Make a lot of dua, prior during, after. Dua all the time.
- If you get married and become a 2nd wife, do not expect a wedding present or any type of congratulations from the first wife. If you by some mysterious surprise you actually get a wedding present and its food. DO NOT EAT IT. It may or may not be laced with laxatives. lol

Sister wives...hmmm interesting
Ok, so TLC has this new show that comes on Sunday nights at 10pm called Sister Wives. OMG i am loving this show. So , I admit I know very little about the Mormon faith however this show really inspires me to learn more about their belief system. So in the picture the husband Kody was first married to the 1st wife Meri (with short hair), then 2nd wife Jenelle in pink, then 3rd wife Christine in black & purple. The family has 12 kids with one on the way and all live in one big home with 3 separate apartments. I dont like how the husband is trying to get a 4th wife. I was all rooting for him, but now im like ok dude your just being greedy. But the family seems to be doing well financially Kody drives Lexus sports car, Meri has a Lexus SUV and Christine and Jeanelle both drive SUVs. Christine stays at home with the children and the other two wives work. This arrangement seems to be working well for them. What I found to be interesting about their situation was that all of the wives were married to Kody before any of them had children with him. If my husband "marries" his concubine as planned then we both would be in the same scenario as the sister wives. I think being married in polygamy before any children would be a benefit because it allows everyone to adjust and see if it can work before any bebe kids are brought in the mix. The kids on the show seem like normal kids that are all well adjusted. Another thing about the show which I found interesting is that their whole dynamic seems to work. Grant it they have all been married to this Kody dude for like 16+ years, so the days of name calling and cat fights are likely long gone, but they seem to be in a good place. I like how they all seem to work together helping with the children and hanging out like sisters/friends. They defiantly have a beautiful bond, a bond which I have rarely seen in other polygamy situations. If and when the concubine and my hubbie finalize whatever plans they have, it would be nice to eventually be able to work together without wanting to call her a dirty mistress. Regardless of whatever friendship me and the concubine may ever form, I don't think I ever want to live in the same home regardless of how big it is. Too close for comfort. I think the closest I would want to do would be purchasing a large home on several acres of land and then building another home on the property for the concubine. Another reason why I wouldn't want to live together is because if her family would ever come to visit I would have to be covered, and vise verse. But yea, sister wives will be on the good ol' DVR so i can take notes on how to "maintain my calm." LOL

The other woman aka "concubine"
Let me just start with saying this is my personal blog, not a source for "how to be successful at polygamy" and become "besties" with the other woman. This is just my experience and how I am choosing to handle things. In any difficult and new situation its best just to try to take it one day at a time, and do the best you can. So with that being said I wanted to respond to an email/message someone sent me regarding why I refer to her (Denise) as the "concubine".A concubine can be defined as :
A concubine is generally a woman in an ongoing, matrimonial-like relationship with a man, whom she cannot marry for a specific reason. The reason may be because she is of lower social rank than the man or because the man is already married. Generally, only men of high economic and social status have concubines. Many historical rulers maintained concubines as well as wives.
Historically, concubinage was frequently voluntary (by the woman and/or her family's arrangement), as it provided a measure of economic security for the woman involved.(thanks Wikipedia :-)
According to this definition I really do not see anything wrong with referring to her this way. This name describes the situation, she is /will be in an ongoing relationship with my husband whom he legally cannot marry. It is true usually men whom have high social status ie "up on their deen", or high economic status ie; financially stable can make polygamy more successful. Also polygamy in Islam does provide some economic security for the woman involved if done correctly. The other names I originally was referring to her as were not very nice at all, and I stopped using them due to I didn't want to backbite or slander Denise. (not her real name) I defiantly feel concubine is much better than the alternative names I could be using. Inshallah there will come a time when I can truly feel happy for her that she is with a good husband. When that time comes, only Allah knows.

What does polygamy FEEL LIKE?
So even though I am not yet in it so to speak the whole process is still very stressful and annoying. A friend of mine asked me what does it feel like to be in polygamy. Well right now some days if feels as if someone has ripped your heart out of your chest, threw it on the ground, set it on fire, then poured peroxide on it, then threw it away. Yea that basically that sums it up lol. But that's not all days, that's how it was today. Today pretty much sucked. If i didn't love my husband so much perhaps it wouldn't affect me as it does. It would be so much easier if he was a jerk then I could just tell him to kick rocks and keep it moving. I would really like to hear from the 2nd and 3rd wives out there as far as what does it "feel like" to be in polygamy. Do you still feel torn? Like your heart is breaking when he leaves? Or have you learned to roll with the punches? Denise emailed me and I really think she is very delusional and unrealistic in her views of polygamy. For some strange reason she thinks its going to be fun and that once i get used to it me and her can be good friends. What the?? Umm no ...sorry concubine I really don't see that happening. Well who knows , right now I'm in an angry place lol so no telling how I'm going to feel tomorrow.
Live, Laugh , Love ;-)
Aslaamu-Alaikum world. So here I am again today jotting down my ramblings of my mind. Well in keeping with the positive one word of advice if or when you are faced with any situation not just polygamy in your marriage; Keep your mouth shut. Its awesome to have a good support system when you are dealing with a tough time or confused about something. But really, you have to really analyze the source when you asking others for advice or confiding in them. I've tried not to talk too much about this situation, it hasn't happen yet and it may not , only Allah knows. But talking to a few people about polygamy in general really opens your eyes sometimes in a bad way. I understand im blogging to the world about this but then again nobody really knows me personally so I don't care. But, I have found that a lot of Muslim women have very negative views on the topic and think you should instantly leave your husband, or just stay and use him for money. One sister told me, just be a roommate to him, get your bills paid and "use him for what he's worth" lol Wow, this is sad this is the state of the Muslim Ummah. What many women fail to realize polygamy will soon become more common due to the male/female ratio of like 12:1. So many women who have told themselves for years "I could never do that." Maybe in the same situation soon. So surround yourself with positive people. Unfortunately a lot of people have stressful marriages without polygamy and want you to be miserable just because they are. But dont give in to their foolishness lol.
Another thing is try to keep a reminder of the blessings you have in your life. My husband treats me very well. I am not in a situation where I have to work, he doesn't control me or speak to me disrespectfully. We honestly have a really good relationship. We are very in sync. He's always told me (well before this scenario) that he's never loved anyone as much as he loves me, and how he's so happy we vibe so well without drama. So when he's home we just relax, and enjoy each others company . And for the most part I don't even think of this situation when I am with him. And I dont ask him about it. I really feel the less I know right now the better. Certain details are needed of course. But really, during this transition process less is more. I really could care less what she is like, her personality and why he likes her. Because no matter the reasons every woman is different and this is his choice. I dont have to like her, or have a relationship. Asking these types of questions can only cause more problems later. Another thing is, if he is planning on marrying her in a few months why waste the alone time I have interrogating him about her. I know my husband and I know his heart. If she is worth marrying then there is some good to her, which in time I may find out about. But for now I'd rather enjoy our quality time. Seems like the more I am "cool" about it, the more my husband pampers me. He came home today with a 2 dozen red roses and told me how sorry he is for hurting me and he appreciates all that I do for him. And says he never wants to loose me. Awe...lol Days like this do make this transition easier. He is defiantly making it hard for me to want to leave lol.
